METHEUS GUIDE · v1.3 · ENGLISH SOURCE RECORD

Actual prompt and review sequence

Follow the recorded workflow and review decisions rather than expecting one prompt to reproduce a finished design.

The 54-word initial brief, two historical recovery requests, the 36-word revision, and the 127-word review request are preserved verbatim. Model updates, conversation state, search results, and engineering decisions can change the geometry and ranking. For a new Generate run, use its actual job identifier and selected candidate indices instead of blindly reusing the historical IDs below.

Final review status: reviewed with limitations

1. Original short brief

2026-09-20T23:02:09.500352+09:00 · METHEUS app — GPT-5.6 Luna / medium / Basic

Start in a new conversation and an empty CAD document. The successful search returned 300 kinematic candidates after retries. This brief did not independently produce the final assembly.

Design a lightweight two-finger gripper for mounting on a robot wrist. Grasp 20–60 mm objects up to 0.5 kg using one rotary actuator and near-parallel jaws. Use an enclosed palm and a rear mounting flange. Use METHEUS Generate to compare four-bar, six-bar and passive-slider mechanisms, then develop the most practical candidate with standard components.

2. Recorded candidate-recovery follow-up

2026-09-20T23:19:26.496322+09:00 · METHEUS app — GPT-5.6 Luna / medium / Basic

The first CAD concept did not preserve the returned mechanism geometry. This follow-up requested original exports for comparison rather than accepting substituted links.

Preserve the current concept separately. It does not match the generated linkage. Export candidates at indices 0, 93 and 121 from Generate job 836ef4d5f2bb46898ac779721e468de2. Build each actual skeleton using its exact returned get_url without rewriting it. Keep their original geometry in separate documents. Stop after the skeleton comparison; do not substitute handmade links.

3. Recorded passive-slider export follow-up

2026-09-20T23:25:04.232248+09:00 · METHEUS app — GPT-5.6 Luna / medium / Basic

An export-only request recovered the passive-slider candidate. The connected authoring session subsequently recovered the exact native skeletons through METHEUS and FreeCAD.

Only call metheus_candidate_export for index 121 of Generate job 836ef4d5f2bb46898ac779721e468de2 (TwoFingerGripper_Synthesis), then stop. Do not build or change the CAD documents.

4. Recover the source, compare candidates, and develop the assembly

2026-09-20 to 2026-09-21 · Connected authoring session — GPT-6 Astra / Ultra, using METHEUS and FreeCAD

The authoring session passed the exact exports through the METHEUS/FreeCAD connection, compared three original 72-pose mechanisms, selected four-bar index 93 / rank 94, and performed the later detailed CAD and analysis work documented for v1.2. This work was separate from the 54-word initial input and the app-side export requests.

The v1.2 planar plate results and assembly checks are historical evidence. They do not validate the longer v1.3 fingers, revised flange, or complete physical gripper.

5. Revision request: longer fingers and a UR5e interface

2026-09-21T10:45:19.757000+09:00 · METHEUS app — GPT-5.6 Luna / medium / Basic

Continue with the selected four-bar in the current CAD document. The requested 25 to 50 mm dimension is exposed reach beyond the front cover. Initial app edits were reviewed for local motion frames, mating flange geometry, and BOM accuracy before any final design claim.

Keep the selected four-bar in the current CAD document. Double both fingers’ exposed reach from 25 to 50 mm. Remove the robot reference. Use the official UR5e tool-flange interface. Update the BOM, drawings and load checks.

6. Additional request after review

2026-09-21T10:53:27.137000+09:00 · METHEUS app — GPT-5.6 Luna / medium / Basic

Continue in the same conversation after engineering review. This request separates finger bending from planar drive torque and asks for an actual mating flange and a recalculated BOM. An idle app response does not establish that the final geometry or loads have been validated.

Keep the same generated four-bar. Rebuild the longer fingers and pads in their original local motion frames, preserving the existing shank sections and 50 mm exposed reach. Model the mating UR5e flange from its official drawing, including the male pilot and locating-pin feature. Recalculate the BOM from the parts and check finger bending separately from planar drive torque.

Official drawing: https://www.universal-robots.com/developer/hardware-and-motion/mounting-installation-robot-arm/
The robot-side flange has four M6 holes on a 50 mm PCD at 45, 135, 225 and 315 degrees, a central 31.50 mm H7 female recess, and a 6 mm H7 locating hole at 12 o'clock on the 50 mm PCD. Use a mating male pilot and a radial locating slot on the gripper side. M6 screw penetration into the robot must not exceed 8 mm.

7. Review and verify the revised geometry and loads

2026-09-21 · Connected review session — GPT-6 Astra / Ultra, using METHEUS API and FreeCAD

Following both app responses, connected engineering corrections restored the original finger motion frames and created the actual UR5e mating hardware. The reviewed gripper has 50 mm exposed fingers and no robot reference. Review covered the preserved 72-pose source, finite CAD clearance, part-derived BOM, six new individual-finger FEM cases, and a separate 72-pose quasistatic planar-drive calculation. The two app responses alone were not treated as a completed validated design.

The individual-finger displacements stabilized with mesh refinement, but peak corner stress did not converge. The planar estimate assumes 85% transmission efficiency and excludes inertia and measured friction. Production fillets, attachment and contact, fatigue, physical robot fit, and whole-gripper performance remain to be validated.
